At the April 27 meeting the CRA director gave an update on downtown activation initiatives tied to last year’s DART study, describing façade and code‑compliance grants and outreach to prospective developers.
The director said the CRA has assisted three businesses this year with façade and compliance work and that three or four additional applications remain under review. He listed several incoming or progressing projects, saying the Alga Brewery is in the development order review process and that FUBAR Pizza Bar has applied for building permits to remodel the Crestview Hardware building. The Fox Theater was described as continuing steady progress and as a destination likely to encourage further development in the Main Street district.
Board members and staff framed these projects as part of the broader goal of creating an “18‑hour day” downtown to encourage more evening and daytime activity. The director said staff continues to promote downtown opportunities when developers visit town and to assist new businesses as they pursue permits and renovations.
