CRA approves shifting sidewalk‑staining funds to multi‑use path construction

The Crestview Community Redevelopment Agency voted unanimously April 27 to amend its budget and move forward with construction of a multi‑use path instead of the previously planned sidewalk‑staining project.
A CRA staff member told the board a staining bid came in significantly over the amount the agency had set aside and that staff recommended reallocating the money because “we did not feel like it was the best use of those funds moving forward due to the lifespan of the staining and sealing process,” adding that downtown event traffic would shorten the stain’s life and create patchy results. The staff member said the design for the multi‑use path is already funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the amendment under consideration would fund construction.
Board members expressed support for the change. One member said the path would provide a safer, fixed route from Twin Hills Park to Main Street and create another recreational option. When asked about the schedule, staff said the engineering design is expected to finish in late summer and that construction could begin before the fiscal year ends, estimating a likely start in September and noting the project would be shorter than a roadway build because it will not be held to DOT road standards.
The chair called for a motion; the board recorded a motion to approve the budget amendment with a named mover and a second. The motion carried unanimously.
The CRA staff said the shift is intended to produce a longer‑lasting public benefit and to free future budget dollars for other sidewalk or lighting initiatives.
