NDOW reports mountain lion and coyote removals; White Pine CAB backs draft predation plan

Nevada Department of Wildlife staff briefed the White Pine County Advisory Board on predator-removal work and collaring data tied to mule deer enhancement projects, and the board voted to support the Draft Fiscal Year 2027 Predation Management Plan.
NDOW’s Ridge Ricketts said Project 47 in Unit 121 removed 11 mountain lions over an 11-month period, Project 40 (moved to Area 13) removed 13 mountain lions in July–December, and 70 coyotes were removed from the northern portion of Unit 131 using ground-based and trapping methods rather than aerial removal. Ricketts added that 25 fawns were collared in Unit 111 in December, with three or more mortalities across study areas; in one area roughly 67% of mortalities were mountain lion-related over a two-year span.
After questions about how long projects continue and details on collar data, Board Member Ray Sawyer moved that the board support the Draft FY2027 Predation Management Plan; the motion was seconded by Steve Marquez and carried with no opposition.
