White Pine County finance staff explain CAB budget process; board advised to request funds through county

White Pine County finance staff walked the Wildlife Advisory Board through how state CAB funds are handled by the county and urged clearer budgeting to ensure funds are available for board use. Kathy Workman, White Pine County Finance Director, presented the CAB account figures: a beginning balance of $5,292.88, total revenues of $2,456.00, total expenses of $600.00, and an ending balance reported as $7,148.88.
Workman told the board that “if the CAB does not provide an amount it intends to spend, those funds cannot be released,” and that the county must budget the amount the CAB expects to use. She added that the board currently has approximately $6,300.00 available to spend through July 2026, and that if budgeted funds are exhausted additional money requires an augmentation process that can take one to two months. Board Secretary Kayla Couch said the discussion clarified confusion over the balance the county reports to the state versus what is available to spend.
