County officials flag $261,088 available to levy as board debates budget reductions

The Board discussed the 2024–2025 Budget, Appropriation and Levy during the Oct. 15 meeting. County Clerk Meg Sybert said the Sheriff, County Clerk and Treasurer had made changes to their budget proposals and that the county still had $261,088 available to levy. Sybert cautioned that levying the additional amount "would not help the General Fund because the max rate would cap the fund."
Chairman Bernard Myers said he had asked department heads to begin with a 10% reduction in their budgets. Board members, including Jeff Rehkemper and Chris Timmermann, expressed concern about how to close what one member described as a "huge gap" and requested additional time to review proposed changes. Meg Sybert invited board members to contact her if they had questions as they review the materials.
