Bond County approves Veterans Assistance Commission budget but cannot mandate supervisor residency, State's Attorney says

The Board approved the Veterans Assistance Commission proposed budget and levy; Holly Clarke invited members to the Commission's Nov. 15 meeting. State's Attorney Dora Mann advised the Board that it may express a preference but cannot require the supervisor be a Bond County resident.
Representatives of the Veterans Assistance Commission attended the Nov. 6 meeting. Holly Clarke, Post 1377 Auxiliary President, invited Board members to the Commission's first meeting on Nov. 15, 2024 and discussed a candidate who lives in St. Jacob who is federally trained and does VA work.
Boardmember Jeff Rehkemper asked that preference be given to a Bond County resident for the supervisor position. State's Attorney Dora Mann told the Board they could express a preference but could not make residency a requirement; after that clarification the Board approved the proposed budget and levy for the Veterans Assistance Commission on a 5-0 vote (motion by Jacob Rayl, second by Jeff Rehkemper).
