Bond County schedules public forum after residents raise concerns about Red Ball Trail Bridge alignment

Highway Engineer Mike McCormick told the Board that letters were sent to adjoining property owners and that many attendees were unhappy with the bridge alignment. McCormick said the new proposed bridge ‘‘will go over the City water line,’’ create utility-line conflicts and place the road ‘‘very close to’’ one neighbor’s house. He warned the Board, ‘‘we only have one shot SO it needs to be done right,’’ and advised against moving forward until the issues are resolved, saying revisiting the design could delay the project by ‘‘3 to 4 years.’’
Board members exchanged public comments with residents during the meeting and acknowledged the need for additional public input before approving a final alignment. The Board’s announcement sets an explicit opportunity for neighbors, the Highway Engineer and county officials to discuss alternatives and utilities coordination prior to project advancement.
The public forum is scheduled for Oct. 15, 2024 at 5:30 p.m.; the Board did not adopt a new alignment or authorize construction at the Oct. 1 meeting.
