Chair Mark G. Fischer presided; the board recessed at 8:33 AM and reconvened as the Board of County Commissioners at 8:40 AM after canvass business was completed.
Yvonne Vigil, Village of Ruidoso Municipal Clerk, presented the canvass and reported that "the turnout for the election was 27%," up from 13% in the municipality’s 2024 election. She provided vote totals and administrative details: 59 same-day registrations, 18 absentee ballots (including 1 UOCAVA ballot), 1 visually impaired ballot (resulting in two hand tallies), 426 early voting ballots, and 991 election-day ballots. Chair Fischer asked whether the village would consider opting into the county’s Regular Local Election schedule to lower costs; Vigil said "there had not been any interest in the past, however they may consider it after reviewing the total cost of the election this year."
The board took procedural votes by roll call. Commissioners unanimously approved the motion to recess and convene as the Canvassing Board, later unanimously approved a motion to adjourn the Canvassing Board, and then unanimously approved the canvass of the Village of Ruidoso municipal election as presented. The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, March 17, 2026, and adjourned the special meeting at 8:42 AM.
