The Knox County Board voted unanimously Jan. 28 to authorize a temporary transfer of up to $500,000 to Mary Davis Home to cover interim costs while the State processes reimbursements.
Chair Jared Hawkinson said the transfer increases the packet recommendation of $300,000 to $500,000 at the Treasurer’s request. When Member Cheryl Nache asked what would happen if the State ultimately refused payment, Hawkinson said the State 'has a legal obligation under statute to supply that funding' and legal counsel would intervene if necessary. The resolution passed on a 13-0 roll call vote.
The resolution was described by the county as a short-term cash flow measure to bridge timing gaps in State reimbursements; Treasurer Robin Davis recommended the $500,000 figure. No mover/second for the motion is recorded in the transcript. The board did not attach a sunset date to the temporary transfer in the discussion recorded.
