Mercer County finance panel reviews 2023 audit, approves vendor presentations and routine payments

The Mercer County finance committee met Aug. 6 at 6:00 p.m. The committee heard a presentation of the county’s 2023 audit and routine departmental updates, and approved motions to change vendor presentations and to approve reimbursements and claims.
County Clerk Brian Gerber presented the 2023 audit and reported that grant records and the county’s financial accounts are up to date. Budget work for the coming year has begun, and staff told the committee that next year’s property tax distributions will be broken into five installments. During staff reports, law enforcement noted $10,000 was raised by auctioning old squad cars and that some positions remain open. The highway department reported on road projects in Keithsburg, Burgess, Buffalo Prairie and Ridge Road. Public comment was recorded as none.
In the action portion of the meeting, a motion by Gregg, seconded by DeMink, to move on from Twin State and invite Sedona and Office Specialist to present next month was recorded as approved by all present. The committee also approved HRA reimbursements for July (motion by Arbet, seconded by Gregg) and approved claims for July (motion by Hawn, seconded by Gregg). The next meeting was set for Sept. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
