County approves $5,000 Hotel/Motel tax grant for Elkins 4th of July car show

The Randolph County Commission approved a $5,000 Hotel/Motel Tax award to Our Town on May 14 to support a Fourth of July car show returning to Elkins City Park. Priscilla Gay, treasurer of Our Town, said Mountain State Street Machines helped arrange the move back to the city park and described plans for awards, food vendors and shade for classic cars. "They give out monetary prizes and a best in show award," Gay said, describing event features.
Commissioner Chris Siler moved to fund the request and the motion passed unanimously. County officials said the money will come from Hotel/Motel tax funds. Gay thanked the commission for years of support; the minutes do not record additional conditions or reporting requirements attached to the funding approval.
