Court security officer reports knives, two guns and other items found in April screenings

Court Security Officer Kenneth Hamrick told the Randolph County Commission on May 14 that security screenings across courthouse buildings produced several weapons and contraband items during April. "There were a total of 2,497 people scanned for all of the buildings," Hamrick reported, then provided facility-by-facility counts: 195 scanned at the main courthouse (one knife, two miscellaneous items); 1,376 at the James Cain Annex (164 knives, two guns, three pepper sprays and 23 miscellaneous items); 216 at the Wees Annex (two knives and a needle); and 710 in Magistrate Court (49 knives, one gun, two pepper sprays and two vapes).
Hamrick's report was presented as an informational update; the commission did not take further action during the May 14 meeting. The figures provide the county's most recent monthly snapshot of items detected by screening procedures implemented at courthouse entrances.
