Ross police say department now fully staffed; license-plate reader insurance, interoperability remain issues

Police Chief Raffaello Pata told the council on March 12 that the Ross Police Department is "now fully staffed," allowing improved coverage for school monitoring, traffic enforcement and timely responses to calls.
Chief Pata described increased enforcement activity and a recent significant elder-abuse financial-theft investigation that involved extensive investigative work and support from a volunteer forensic accounting team. He also reported the department assisted a neighboring jurisdiction on a school bomb threat and coordinated precautionary measures when a registered sex offender visited the area.
During the discussion Council Member Mathew Salter asked about License Plate Readers (LPRs). Town Manager Christa Johnson said staff "has still not been able to resolve insurance issues with the company, and they are refusing to provide insurance for the Town." Chief Pata added that agencies using the County's Flock system have benefited from information sharing, but he noted differences in leasing terms and interoperability trade-offs if the Town chose an alternative vendor.
Council Member Teri Dowling thanked the chief and suggested a FAST-team presentation on elder abuse; Chief Pata agreed. No council action was taken at the meeting; the discussion was informational and staff will follow up on vendor insurance and interoperability considerations.
