Board discusses changing bylaws so students who attend county schools can serve on board

Board members discussed potential bylaws amendments after Library staff reported a Grand County High School student applied for the High School Representative seat but was ineligible because their residence is outside Grand County. Carrie Valdes explained that under current bylaws residency is a requirement and the applicant’s residence disqualified them; board members discussed an edit so that attendance at a Grand County high school, not residence, would establish eligibility.
Valdes said staff will provide revised bylaws for the board to review at a future meeting and noted the Grand County Attorney has a new template for bylaws that the revision will follow. The board agreed to consider the suggested change and review staff‑drafted language at a future meeting.
