Board hears plans to extend downtown waterline to additional streets; county requested ditch and matting on Vernie Lee extension

City Administrator Kim Rogers told the board the downtown waterline replacement project is ongoing and that the city hopes to add Pine & Front Streets and E. College Ave to the work if budgetary space allows.
Rogers reported that the Vernie Lee extension has been finished. She said contractor Darrell Nitzschke was told by Blount County staff to install a ditch where none had been before and to use matting rather than straw. Rogers told the contractor the county had not required matting and instructed them to use straw; she said the ditch had already been put in by the time she spoke with county staff.
No formal direction or vote was taken at the meeting on adding streets to the downtown contract; Rogers framed these as contingent possibilities subject to available funds and county coordination.
