Friendsville reports 18 households connected under HUD sewer grant; more hookups remain

City Administrator Kim Rogers told the Friendsville Utility Board that 18 new customers are fully hooked up to the sewer system through the HUD grant project.
Rogers said progress has been slowed by a recent federal government shutdown and by illness in the electrician's family. She reported there are four remaining hookups on N. Farnum and three homes behind the school that were added to the grant even though they lay along the original line; she said the contractor will next move to Hill St. to install grinder pumps. Rogers added that sewer fees have been placed on the utility bills for residents along the new line.
The board did not change policy or rates at the meeting; Rogers described the work as ongoing and noted the need to complete remaining hook-ups before moving to subsequent phases.
