NETC engineering: KUON to move from VHF to UHF; SMPTE 2110 migration underway

Chief Technology Officer Duane Smith told the Commission that KUON is being converted from VHF (channel 12) to UHF (channel 26) to improve coverage and building penetration. The conversion includes installation of a new modern transmitter, an auxiliary transmitter for reduced-power fallback, and replacement of antennas and feedlines; rigging crews and installers are scheduled with a planned June–July launch.
Smith also described a systems upgrade moving core video and audio routing to SMPTE 2110. Systems are installed and testing is underway, and the first 2110 router switching occurred recently. Work at the KOOO studio and transmitter site is also proceeding under the infrastructure modernization plan and is tracking on schedule.
