Residents press board over promised grinder pumps and seek ARPA/TDEC records

At the Jan. 12 Friendsville Board of Commissioners meeting, residents raised concerns about promised sewer grinder pumps and whether TDEC/ARPA funds had been used for the intended work. "The grinder pump hadn't been hooked up at my rental house, and there was a trench in the yard that was a trip hazard," resident Pattie Kuhn told the board.
Jeff Howe told the board he planned to submit a public-records request concerning TDEC/ARPA funds because he lives along the original sewer line and said he had been promised a grinder pump; he said he had heard the funds "were spent for something else." Commissioner Shane Rogers responded that decisions about those funds were largely at the county level, and Mayor Steven Cardwell said the county mayor wanted to administer the funds, which required county-level records and processes.
City Administrator Kim Rogers said the city had been researching other grant options to pay for pumps and told Ms. Kuhn she would contact the contractor about the unfinished trench. No formal motion or vote about the grinder pumps or fund reallocation was recorded at the meeting; Mr. Howe said he would likely pursue records from the county.
