NET engineers report migration to SMPTE 2110 infrastructure; KUON transmitter antenna remains to be installed

Engineering staff reported steady progress on multiple infrastructure projects at the June 25 Commission meeting. Chief Technology Officer Duane Smith and Sr. Director of Engineering Jered Hofker said the conversion of core video infrastructure to SMPTE 2110 is approaching full deployment and that staff are testing signal routing across the plant.
The team also completed a transmitter transition for the Omaha soft launch and has been upgrading studio automation systems and integrating the Radio Traffic system with automation to reduce manual steps. KUON was noted as set to launch with a new transmitter and antenna in late July; transmitters have been tested and antennas remain the last outstanding item.
Engineering staff said they partnered with the university IT team to replace core networking infrastructure at headquarters, improving functionality and network security posture as part of the work.
