Council awards $217,217 Shady Lane Safe Routes contract, approves 10% contingency

The Ross Town Council voted unanimously (5'00) to award a construction contract to Maggiora & Ghilotti, Inc. for the Shady Lane Safe Routes to School Project in the amount of $217,217 and authorized a ministerial contingency of approximately 10% (up to $20,000) to address unforeseen conditions.
Public Works Director Rich Simonitch told the council the project is supported by a $100,000 Measure AA Safe Pathways grant. Mayor Pro Tem Elizabeth Robbins asked about surface appearance options; Simonitch said the design follows the 2016 Council-adopted policy using Class II aggregate base. Council Member Teri Dowling moved and Council Member Bill Kircher, Jr. seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The contract award authorizes the Town Manager to execute the construction contract and to use the contingency as needed for change orders. The council recorded a 5-0 vote in favor of the award.
