Auditor: Nexus Line tax appeal underway; county to receive $43,400 federal payment for transferred parcels

Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson updated the commission on election preparations and property-tax matters. Johnson reported that Nexus Line LLC has taken its valuation dispute to tax court and that the State of Minnesota is representing the affected counties in what the auditor said typically takes years to resolve. “Nexus Line LLC is going to tax court, they are contesting their tax values,” Johnson said.
Johnson also told commissioners the county received a federal payment of $43,400 connected to two parcels sold by Pheasants Forever to the United States government; the payment will be allocated among Traverse County, Arthur Township, and the CGB school district, and the land will become tax-exempt with Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) replacing local property tax revenue. He added that tax settlements will be completed after Oct. 20.
