Commissioners approve series of rezoning actions and ETJ parcel assignments

Cleveland County commissioners approved multiple planning items Sept. 16, holding public hearings for each and voting unanimously to adopt staff recommendations.
Planning Case 25-09 rezoned Parcel 6071 (approximately 85 acres at 2218 Emerald Mine Road) from Residential (R) to Rural Residential (RU), consistent with a Secondary Growth land-use designation. Planning Case 25-11 rezoned a roughly 67-acre tract at 154 Runyan Road from R to RU; applicant/homeowner George Ellis was listed in the materials. Case 25-12 rezoned about 15.8 acres at 135 Dixon Dairy Road from Heavy Industrial (HI) to Residential (R) at the request of Neisler Brothers Inc. Planning Case 25-13 administratively assigned Residential (R) and Restricted Residential (RR) zoning to parcels relinquished from the Kings Mountain extraterritorial jurisdiction to correct mapping and reflect adjacent zoning.
In each hearing the Planning Board had recommended approval and chair opened the hearings; no members of the public spoke. Commissioners cited consistency with the County Land Use Plan and compatibility with surrounding land uses in adopting the rezoning motions.
