BLM and SFRA relocate boulders, document dinosaur track site; committee discusses hiking access

Andrea Brand reported that BLM heavy equipment moved boulders away from a rim to protect a newly documented dinosaur track site, with oversight from BLM paleontologist Emily Lessner and contractor work on SITLA land paid and reimbursed by SITLA. Brand said SFRA staff and volunteers swept the site and BLM arranged a regional office photographer to document the tracks with photogrammetry.
Committee members discussed parking and access, with Brand noting some adjacent parking was fenced off because the track area was larger than initially thought. Member Matt Olding and others asked whether a formal hiking trail could be designated from the Slickrock Bike trail or via the Search and Rescue route; Brand said the county master plan is currently tabled and that SFRA typically provides maps directing visitors to established dinosaur track sites.
