Director says 2025 budget likely underspent; HVAC repairs, hotspot credit, and interlocal agreement updates provided

Library Director Carrie Valdes reported that the library’s 2025 budget will likely be underspent and that the final disbursement from the Grand County Treasurer’s office posts Jan. 10, after which a more detailed 2025 budget review will be provided at the next meeting.
Valdes highlighted that staff ran a strong set of programs in 2025. She said HVAC work crews will return to the library to adjust thermostats and replace a missing part in a main unit. Valdes also said the library’s hotspot lending program has ended for general checkout, but the library retains enough remaining credit with the provider to continue offering hotpots to community organizations and staff are hopeful those funds will last through 2026. Finally, Valdes said the new San Juan County interlocal agreement has begun implementation and staff are adjusting patron accounts as needed.
During future-agenda discussion, Valdes stated the Grand County Maintenance Supervisor found a previously discussed light-fixture replacement proposal unacceptable and that the county Maintenance Department will likely assist with lighting needs. She also reported the Teen Center is a valuable resource but ongoing rent payments may not be sustainable long term.
