State Board of Education approves routine waivers, screeners and meeting schedule

The Oklahoma State Board of Education on Nov. 20 approved a package of routine administrative items and statutory waivers. Board Member Brian Bobek moved to approve the meeting minutes and a slate of requests including a proposed 2026 meeting schedule; the motions carried with all members voting in favor.
The board approved waivers to permit emergency (provisional) teacher certifications under 70 O.S. § 6-187(G), exemptions from library-media specialist certification pursuant to 70 O.S. § 3-126, library-media services waivers under OAC 210:35-5-71; 210:35-7-61; 210:35-9-71 for one year only, and flexibility in the use of allocated textbook funds under Title 70 § 16-114a for the 2025-2026 school year. The board also approved recommended literacy screeners under 70 O.S. §§ 1210.508C(A),(B) and 1210.520(A) and a math screener under 70 O.S. § 1210.907. All recorded votes on these items were unanimous.
