Board backs resolution supporting optional local sales tax for school capital
Summary

Administrator Steve V. Bowen presented a resolution endorsing proposals (HB 334 and SB 607) that would let counties place a referendum for an additional local sales tax of up to 1 percentage point to finance school capital projects. Bowen noted the bills died in committee this session but could return and that forwarding the resolution to the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) would support future lobbying.
Supervisor Richard H. Ingram moved to approve the resolution and Supervisor Daphne V. Norton seconded. The Board approved the resolution by voice vote. Chairman William J. Collins noted that Nottoway County previously adopted a Second Amendment sanctuary resolution and that no new vote was necessary on that topic despite citizen questions earlier in the meeting.
