The Board unanimously approved Planning Case 26-06 to rezone approximately seven acres at 804 Sam Lattimore Road from Residential (R) to Neighborhood Business (NB).
Planning Director Chris Martin said the NB district permits low-intensity, neighborhood-serving commercial uses and is compatible with the Land Use Plan's Airport Compatibility area around the Shelby–Cleveland County Airport. Opponent Holli Helms said rezoning could increase traffic, lighting and noise and change the rural character permanently; applicant and property owner Mickey Simmons said he intends only modest neighborhood-scale uses, such as a small salon. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about permitted uses and the size of the tract before approving the rezoning unanimously.
