New Nottoway animal shelter nearing completion; CARES reports $750,000 raised

Administrator Steve V. Bowen told the Board the new animal shelter is roughly "90% complete" and that the Industrial Development Authority had formally authorized contractor drawdowns to pay contractor invoices. Supervisor Richard H. Ingram said CARES has compiled a list of needed items (furniture, washers and dryers) and has raised "over $750,000" to purchase them; CARES is also developing a volunteer program to support the shelter.
Bowen thanked the Town of Burkeville for providing personnel to help lay water and sewer lines. The record shows the next progress meeting for the shelter is scheduled for January 29, 2026. No additional county appropriation was recorded in the meeting minutes.
