During the public comment period on Aug. 5, residents urged the Board to consider taxpayer hardship when setting the county tax rate. Danny Blanton (1827-1 Creek Ridge Road, Shelby) told Commissioners that fixed-income citizens cannot afford higher taxes or fees and asked that the county lower tax rates. Peter Williams echoed Blanton’s concerns.
Ernest McCluney, Commander of the Shelby Disabled American Veterans chapter, requested the county’s consideration and assistance with a new roof for the Shelby DAV building. Commissioners did not take formal action on the roof request during the meeting; public-comment requests were received and entered into the record for staff follow-up and future consideration.
