City manager reports denied OPWC application, multiple grant pursuits and local projects

City Manager John Westfall told the Gallipolis City Commission on March 3 that the city's emergency Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) application was denied, but OPWC recommended applying for regular funding in the fall.
Westfall said the city has applied for additional grants through Representative Dave Taylor's office for water-line phase II, water-plant improvements, Hedgewood Drive repair, and water meter replacement. He also said the city has pursued congressional discretionary funding for interim improvements to Hedgewood Drive.
On operations and capital work, Westfall reported the Vine Street lift station generator requires a new transfer switch estimated at $13,000; riverfront contractor crews are removing existing curb and pouring new concrete; and the water-line replacement project has completed most of Upper Route 7 with remaining work on Route 7 South and Jackson Pike.
Staff presented these items as operational updates rather than items requiring immediate new appropriations at the meeting. Follow-up will depend on grant awards and project scheduling.
