Police Chief Odis Rogers told council that a new Ford Explorer cruiser delivered in June has been upfitted and placed in service, and that the vehicle includes a motion‑sensor feature that automatically alerts an officer and can roll up windows and lock doors if someone approaches the vehicle and the officer does not acknowledge the alert.
"This is definitely the nicest cruiser the department has ever gotten," Rogers said, adding that the feature addresses concerns about officer safety following nationally reported ambush incidents. Rogers also said the newly assigned school resource officer (SRO) began last Monday at St. Mary of the Falls School and has received positive feedback from school staff and parents. He said the department is scheduling civil service testing through NTN to backfill the position.
