EPA officials outline spending, engagement and coordination priorities; Commission records five interim follow-ups and elects delegation leaders

Amy Van Blarcom-Lackey (EPA Region 3) and Dan Coogan (Director, EPA Chesapeake Bay Program Office) briefed the Commission on three shared priorities under the revised Watershed Agreement: maximizing spending on nutrient and sediment reductions (including administrative cost reductions), active stakeholder engagement with headwaters states, and stronger federal coordination at leadership levels. Members thanked the EPA officials and asked that federal partners be invited to future meetings where relevant topics are on the agenda.
Executive Director Anna Killius summarized five interim follow-up items for staff tracking, including potential impacts from federal conservation technical assistance cuts and the IIJA Abandoned Mine Land funds reallocation, continued PFAS coordination, and invitations to federal partners. The Commission then unanimously endorsed each delegation’s 2026 officer slate; Senator Gene Yaw will serve as full Commission Chair for 2026. The meeting adjourned at 11:13 a.m.
