USU Eastern to remodel space with $350,000 and expand social work program

Kristian Olsen of USU Eastern reported the university secured $350,000 to remodel a journalism area into a social work space and lab, enabling the Master of Social Work program to expand by roughly 12 students. Olsen said the new lab will provide counseling to students and community members and is expected to be completed in about a year.
Olsen also noted commencement is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 with retiring Provost Larry Smith as the speaker. The university created a new concurrent enrollment coordinator position filled by Jessica Barker to help high-school students access college coursework, and Olsen said their Passport to Eastern event (June 5–6) will showcase faculty-led excursions to highlight local archaeology and geology.
