Board introduces 11 capital ordinances for public hearing July 8; funds proposed for infrastructure and facilities

Deputy Clerk Danielle Benvenuto read the titles of 11 ordinances introduced by the Board of Commissioners on June 17, with public hearings scheduled for July 8 at 4:00 PM. The slate includes appropriations and bond ordinances for: the Juvenile Detention Facility renovations ($1.4 million, Ordinance #2026‑16); Ocean County College capital renewal ($6,713,917, Ordinance #2026‑17); upgrades to chemical tank systems at county road garages ($750,000, Ordinance #2026‑18); capital improvements at the Northern Recycling Center ($1,700,000, Ordinance #2026‑19); Berkeley Island bulkhead repair and living shoreline ($1,800,000, Ordinance #2026‑20); construction of maintenance hangar and two box hangars at the Ocean County Airport (Ordinances #2026‑21 and #2026‑22, bond authorizations of $10,750,000 and $9,500,000 respectively); and additional capital design and facility upgrades across County buildings and the vocational‑technical school system.

Why it matters: If adopted at the July 8 public hearing and final vote, the ordinances will authorize spending and bonding for multiple County capital projects, including public safety (juvenile detention), infrastructure (recycling, airport) and facility improvements tied to education and services.
