Auditor/Treasurer Kit Johnson distributed a first rough draft of the county’s 2025 proposed budget on Aug. 6 that showed a 19.13% increase over the 2024 budget, noting that early drafts often appear high because many items remain unresolved.
Commissioner Kayla Schmidt asked whether the jail could be shown separately; Johnson said the jail remains a department within the Revenue Fund for state reporting and therefore would not be separated in published reports. Johnson also said the State Auditors requested setting up Judicial Ditch 6 assessment fund #33 for a Watershed Bond; the board approved establishing the fund unanimously. The board approved a motion to table HVAC decisions for the Traverse Care Center and Prairieview Place until additional quotes are obtained.
The meeting’s consent agenda included a list of claims presented and approved by the board; per Minn. Stat. §375.12 the meeting record noted there were 49 claims under $2,000 totaling $17,960.03.
