Sheriff outlines jail occupancy and new MOUD partnerships to support inmates

Traverse County Sheriff Trevor Wright told commissioners on Aug. 6 that July jail occupancy was 29.76% and outlined new health partnerships aimed at addressing opioid use disorder among people in custody.
Wright said the jail is partnering with Stratis Health on medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and that staff will be trained to support inmates while incarcerated. He also said the jail has partnered with YourPath and Beyond Brink to help screen, diagnose and prescribe necessary medications and to provide post-release support. The jail received grant funding from Traverse County opioid funds to purchase two medical devices that monitor inmate vital signs, Wright said.
Wright also noted staffing: Deputy Ethan Krause was hired and has begun training. He invited anyone interested in taking over animal pound boarding services to contact the sheriff’s office, noting Jim and Pam Kraus are retiring after more than 20 years operating the pound.
