Board approves $210,000 to keep Nottoway County Emergency Squad running 24 hours

Finance Manager Logan Presley presented a $210,000 request from the Nottoway County Emergency Squad (NCES) to cover a FY26 shortfall and maintain 24-hour service. Presley said the amount would complete monthly payments previously established and enable NCES to continue uninterrupted operations.
Vice Chairman George G. Toth moved to increase the allocation by $210,000; Supervisor John A. Roark seconded and the Board approved the measure by voice vote. Supervisors discussed the need for written contracts with emergency services agencies to establish expectations and accountability.
Separately, Burkeville Rescue requested $222,500 to fund a third ambulance through June 30 with payroll administered by the Town of Burkeville; the Board discussed the need for a contract before approving such funding. Officials indicated Town-managed payroll would include VRS benefits and that the Fire Department would cover any VRS overage.
