State Archivist Greg Crawford reported to the Library Board that the Library secured a $350,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to fund the 4th Floor Storage Project. The funding will replace cantilever shelving with archival shelving intended to nearly double storage capacity and improve long‑term preservation for government records and special collections.
Crawford also described ongoing digitization efforts under the Virginia Untold project, which continues to index Free Black registers statewide to expand access. The board received the update as part of the Archival, Collections and Records Management Services Committee report; no motion changing collections policy was recorded at this meeting.
