During public comment Jan. 12, resident Cody Jenner asked the Board to consider options for Holiday Shores Road, the primary access for roughly 80 homeowners and the public boat ramp managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Jenner said the road has been maintained by the community for more than 50 years but now faces drainage problems and limited funds. He told the Board residents rely on donations and volunteer labor at an estimated annual cost of about $12,000 and asked county staff and VDOT to explore adding the road to the secondary road system or identify other solutions before community funds are exhausted.
Board members asked staff to provide background on road categories and the conditions that would allow a road to be accepted into the VDOT secondary system; county staff explained the distinctions among VDOT‑maintained roads, publicly dedicated but locally maintained subdivision roads, and private roads.
