County staff told the Board the Tobacco Commission allocation remaining to the County is approximately $1.5 million and that the county intends to apply for $1,503,755 from the FY2026 Southern Virginia Program to help construct the wastewater line. The Board unanimously adopted a resolution directing staff to submit the application, noting the project’s potential to spur industrial development, leverage a RIFA regional partnership with the Town of South Hill, and support construction of about 90 multifamily housing units near Park View High School. The resolution states match funds will come from the Economic Development Fund and future budgeted funds for FY2026‑27 and FY2027‑28 if the award is made.
