Mecklenburg County’s tourism office reported strong growth in 2024, with direct visitor spending increasing roughly 13%—from about $115 million to nearly $130 million—according to Tina Morgan’s Jan. 12 update. Morgan said the increase represented an all‑time high for the county and supported 879 local jobs while generating more than $7.3 million in state and local tax revenue.
Ms. Morgan said lodging, transportation, and food and beverage saw the strongest spending gains; the county accounted for roughly one‑third of the region’s lodging expenditures. She added that 158 short‑term rental properties generated approximately $6.6 million in revenue and $331,000 in transient occupancy tax collections. Campground visitation rose 17% in 2024, county recreation areas recorded over 350,000 vehicle visits, and visitor trip estimates exceeded 500,000—an increase of about 25% from the prior year.
