Commission approves Antimony zone change to allow commercial RV park for mining staff

Noah L. Bennett Jr., the applicant, described his plan to operate an RV park on land at the mouth of Antimony Canyon and said he already has three RV spots and an on-site cabin and office shed: "I have 3 RV spots already set up while I went to get it inspected," he said, and added the health district has permitted the current units. Bennett told commissioners the RV spaces would primarily serve mining employees who need overnight supervision on-site.
Caden, planning staff, explained that approving the zone change would convert the entire parcel to commercial use — including the portion surrounding the applicant’s home — but would not change the home's tax treatment. The commission moved to approve the agricultural-to-commercial zone change; a motion to approve passed by voice vote. Caden said the planning commission’s recommendation will go to the Garfield County Commission next Tuesday as an agenda item for final action.
