Concrete failures delay apron work; contractors replacing panels at their expense

Director Steven Gleason said the project remains behind schedule due to the repeated failures but that recent pours have produced acceptable strength test results. The new concrete aircraft parking positions will add capacity for larger aircraft and special events but will not be available until required curing and subsequent construction phases. Board members and Lochner representatives discussed quality control and quality assurance procedures and the importance of third‑party verification to ensure long‑term performance.
Lochner representatives also reported the asphalt portion of the apron project has progressed without major issues and was expected to be completed by the end of the week; the work plan splits milling/paving and concrete pours across phases to balance cost and operational impacts. Airport staff emphasized coordinated communications about temporary closures and access during the remaining work.
