Carbon County CED Board finalizes 2026 Rural County Grant recommendations

The Carbon County Community Economic Development Board finalized its recommendations for the 2026 Rural County Grant program at its March 3 meeting in Price, voting to forward the recommended awards to the county Commission for approval. Jon Richens moved that ‘‘based off their discussions, rankings, and efforts to date, the board is ready to take the amounts recommended to the Commission for further action,’’ a motion Zak Konakis entertained; Daniel Luke seconded and the motion was approved.
Board members discussed and recorded rankings for more than two dozen applicants. Notable recommended awards included Jones and DeMille — $25,000 of a $50,000 request; Clark's Home Fire Safety — $30,000 of $34,000 requested; Carbon Copy Center — full award of $12,500; Desert Sage Salon — full award of $10,500; Helper Brewing — $25,000 of $41,000 requested; and Positive Pathways — $5,000 of a $5,272 ask. Several applicants were denied funding due to low rankings or missing documentation.
The board documented specific concerns when denying or reducing awards, citing limited job creation, prior funding history, or incomplete applications. The approved recommendation bundle will be forwarded to the Commission for its consideration and any final appropriation decisions. The board also logged follow-up action items for staff to notify applicants where awards were reduced or revoked.
