Board approves five zoning map amendments with conditions on livestock and setbacks

The Jackson County Board took single-reading action on five zoning petitions on Aug. 18. The Zoning Committee recommended approval of each petition after public hearings; approvals included conditions requested by the Land Conservation Department addressing livestock numbers, setbacks (100-foot minimum from property lines, 300-foot minimum from streams), manure handling and environmental protections.
Petitions included: #2025-24 (Town of Albion — 1.75 acres A1 to R2), #2025-25 (Town of Cleveland — 1.5 acres A2/A1 to R2), #2025-27 (Town of Knapp — 40 acres A2 to R6, with conditions limiting chickens to 50 and other requirements), #2025-28 (Town of Franklin — 3.78 acres R2 to R6, conditions including maximum of two horses), and #2025-30 (Town of Melrose — 3 acres A2 to R6, conditions including manure management and setback compliance). Supervisor Sarah Peloquin moved the petitions and voice votes were taken with 19 Aye on each.
