County discontinues running Veterans Directed Care after repeated losses; services continue under external provider

"The program was costing us more and more time, and it had a loss to the county," the Director said, adding county losses of roughly "$60,000 the year before, $25,000 this last year." She said the department continues to promote the program and an external agency now provides services to local veterans so they are not left without assistance.
Board members asked for clarification on the transition and whether veterans would lose service access; the Director said the county retains referral responsibility and will help veterans connect to the agency now providing the program. The board noted reductions in case‑management staff because of the change and discussed training other staff to take on duties previously handled by licensed social workers to preserve caregiver supports.
