County introduces $17.2M in capital ordinances for bridges, traffic control and park construction

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners on March 4 introduced four capital ordinances authorizing borrowing and appropriations for infrastructure and public-safety equipment. The measures — read by Clerk Michelle Gunther and approved for introduction by unanimous roll call — include the following major items: a $5.5 million bond ordinance for the rehabilitation and repair of various county bridges; a $5.5 million bond ordinance for the installation of new and upgraded traffic control devices at various county locations; a $5.0 million appropriation from the County Capital Improvement Fund for development and construction of Manchester Park in Manchester Township; and a $1.2 million appropriation from the Capital Improvement Fund for purchase of prosecutor body cameras, software and related hardware.

All four ordinances were introduced on first reading and set for public hearing and final action on March 25. Director Frank Sadeghi and Deputy Director Jennifier Bacchione said the ordinances respond to capital needs for safety, operations, and park amenities. The bridge and traffic-control measures will be financed by bonds or bond anticipation notes if needed; the Manchester Park and body-camera measures are appropriations from the capital fund. Commissioners said final hearings and public comment will be held at the March 25 meeting.
