Ocean County proclaims March "Women's History Month," honors prosecutor's SART

Ocean County commissioners on March 4 adopted a proclamation designating March 2026 as "Women's History Month" and presented an award to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Sexual Assault Response Team for victim advocacy. The board's recognition was accepted by members of the Ocean County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women and county staff who partner with the SART program.

"Today we gather to celebrate 'National Women's History Month' celebrating women who inspire, lead, and transform," said Susan Sedevic, chair of the Ocean County Advisory Commission on the Status of Women, during the meeting as she described the history of the observance and the community's goal to broaden opportunities for women. "When we celebrate progress, we also acknowledge that the journey toward equality is ongoing," Sedevic added.

Commissioners also passed a separate resolution honoring the Prosecutor's Office Sexual Assault Response Team as the Advisory Commission's Women's Advocate of the Year. The resolution cited SART's 24/7 victim-centered response model — including forensic nursing, victim advocates and trained investigative staff — and its role coordinating medical care, interviews and referrals on behalf of survivors. The board directed staff to distribute the proclamation and award materials to the advisory commission and the prosecutor's office. The action was unanimous.
