As the board brainstormed priorities for fiscal year 2027, members highlighted projects intended to increase foot traffic, improve business operations and measure visitor spending.
One proposal was to purchase Placer.ai geofencing data to understand where visitors to county events spend money before and after visits. "We could geofence the softball tournament," a board member said, describing how a geofence report could show seven-day pre- and post-event spending to assess economic impact. Members discussed using similar data to support targeted marketing and to decide which businesses to recruit.
Ideas also included a reinvigorated pitch competition to provide mentorship and larger prizes, a secret-shopper program to improve customer service, and one-on-one business advisory sessions or leadership training. The board discussed operating structure and noted RCG funds must be project-based; hiring a local consultant to execute events or trainings would be permissible but would require clearer scopes of work and additional reporting. Members emphasized projects that produce measurable ROI and follow-up reporting.
