Commissioners asked when the commission typically selects a vice chair after noting Gary Armstrong had served in that role. Staff said chair and vice-chair appointments normally occur at the start of the year (January–February) but that council appointment of a new commissioner could occur at its Nov. 25 meeting or early December.
Staff reported one volunteer application has been received and that the mayor forwards recommendations to the council; commissioners expressed support for recognizing recent contributors and for bringing staffing issues to the council. Commissioners agreed it was acceptable to wait until the usual appointment window if they preferred. "We had one person who had applied," staff said when describing recruitment status.
